National ACS Spring Meeting

Dr. Cook gave a talk titled "in vitro glycosylation of membrane proteins involved in human disease" at the national meeting in the Chemical Biology section. It also gave him a chance to catch up with friends and former labmates he made during his time at UC San Diego.

Ryan McIntire and Allye Gardner both presented posters at the Wentz Scholar Symposium where they highlighted the research that they did during the time that they were funded by the Wentz Scholarship. Ryan's poster was titled "Expression and Isolation of the Membrane Proteoglycan Syndecan-1 from E. coli and Allye's poster was titled "The Effects of Glycosylation on γ-sarcoglycan".

The local Pentasectional ACS Meeting was attended by the three graduate students; Leshani, Michael H. and Austin. Leshani gave an oral presentation titled "in vitro Glycosylation of the Membrane Glycoprotein γ-Sarcoglycan”.This was her first talk at a meeting outside OSU!
Biophysical Society 62nd Annual Meeting

Dr. Cook attended the annual Biophysical Society Meeting in San Francisco. This year he presented the work that was done by Leshani and Michael J. as a poster. The title of the poster was “in vitro Glycosylation of the Membrane Glycoprotein γ-Sarcoglycan”.

Dr. Cook was invited by the organizers of the Southwest Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society to give a talk. The meeting was held in Lubbock, Texas. He presented the lab’s work in a presentation titled “Studying the Effects of Glycosylation on Membrane Proteins”.

Every year the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence in Protein Structure & Function at the University of Kansas holds a regional meeting for NMR users in the region. The meeting gives structural biologists at surrounding universities a chance to discuss their research. Dr. Cook presented a poster titled “NMR as a tool to monitor post-translational modification” at the meeting.
14th Annual BMBGSA Symposium in Biological Sciences

Leshani took part in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Graduate Student Association Symposium. She presented a poster, “Using NMR Spectroscopy to Measure Membrane Protein Structure, Dynamics, Interactions and Modifications”. Dr. Cook also took part in the meeting by volunteering to judge the student oral presentations.
REU Poster Symposium

For the second year in a row the Cook lab had a summer REU student join the lab for the summer. Mason Koeritz, a student from Concordia Univeristy in Nebraska, presented a poster on his summer research project, “Expression and Purification of the Transmembrane Domain of Membrane Glycoprotein γ-Sarcoglycan”.
5th Annual Symposium on Structural Biology

Dr. Cook attended this one day symposium and presented a poster that was co-authored by Leshani. The poster title was "Studying the Effects of Glycosylation on Membrane Protein Structure and Dynamics Using in vitro Glycosylation"

The Cook lab presented their work at the ENC meeting in Pacific Grove. The poster titled “NMR as a tool to monitor post-translational modification” highlighted the work done using NMR to identify the glycosylation of peptides and proteins."

REU Poster Symposium

Emily Knight, an undergraduate student at Oral Roberts University, spent 10 weeks in the Cook Lab this summer. She was working on the expression and purification of a gamma-sarcogycan. She was able to develop the methods for purifying the membrane protein so that it could be glycosylated and studied by NMR. She presented her research at the REU Symposium in a poster titled "Expression and Purification of the Transmembrane Region of Sarcoglycan-4".

Biophysical Society 60th Annual Meeting

Dr. Cook presented his lab's research at the annual meeting. He has been a member of the Biophysical Society since 2003. The title of this presentation was "in vitro Glycosylation of Membrane Proteins".
2016 OSU Research Symposium

As part of Oklahoma State University Research Week students were able to showcase their research during the Research Symposium. Leshani presented a talk on "in vitro Glycosylation of Membrane Proteins Using N-glycosyltransferase" while Paul presented a poster on "Studies of the Structure, Function and Dynamics of Cancer Protein Syndecan-1".
12th Annual OSU BMBGSA Symposium

The Oklahoma State Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Graduate Student Association held its 12th Annual Symposium Sept. 17-18. Leshani and Paul presented posters at the meeting. The posters described the work that they and the undergraduates in the lab performed. The Keynote speaker for the meeting was Dr. Debra Silver, Professor of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at Duke University.
3rd Annual Symposium on Structural Biology

From Computational Biophysics to Systems Biology

Dr. Cook presented a poster at this intense meeting on glycobiology. Many of the world's leading research groups in glycoproteins were represented at this meeting. Dr. Cook also got a chance to personally thank the members of Dr. Markus Aebi's lab who were helpful in providing some of the reagents that got our lab started.
